'FATHER' OF BIOTENSEGRITY
Stephen M. Levin, MD introduced and established the term “biotensegrity” as a science. Biotensegrity posits that Kenneth Snelson’s and Buckminster Fuller’s architectural concept of "floating compression" or "tensegrity" applies to living systems from sub-cellular to whole-organism scale levels, and explains how biological structures develop by responding advantageously to physical forces.
Dr. Niall Galloway is Associate Professor of Urology and Medical Director of the Emory Continence Center at the Emory Clinic in Atlanta. He joined the Emory University School of Medicine faculty in 1989 with research interests in developmental biology, clinical anatomy, and neuroscience.
DR. JEAN CLAUDE GUIMBERTEAU is a plastic surgeon specializing in reconstructive general surgery, hand, and microsurgery.
A pioneer in endoscopy exploration of the tissue organization of the human body, he is also director and producer of many videos on living matter. He has developed a new concept on living tissues and proposed a new ontology for human interior architectures.
FASCIA COLLEGE FOUNDER
Paul Sercu is a physiotherapist, osteopath, fascia therapist and psychopedagogue.
He is a founding member of the 'Fascia Research Society', an active member of the 'Biotensegrity Interest Group', and a founding member of the 'Belgian Clinical interest group Fascial Physiotherapy'.
John Sharkey MSc is a world renowned Clinical Anatomist with over 35 years experience. His areas of expertise include Exercise Physiology, Medical Exercise, movement and manual therapeutic application of biotensegrity.
John is a member of the British Association of Clinical Anatomists (BACA), a full member of the Anatomical Society (AS), an accredited Exercise Physiologist (BASES) and a founding member of the Biotensegrity Interest Group (B.I.G).
FASCIA RESEARCH PIONEER
Robert Schleip MA PhD directs the Fascia Research Project at Ulm University, Germany.
Dr. Schleip also pioneers the International Fascia Research Congress and is a certified Rolfing Instructor and Feldenkrais teacher. He is author and co-editor of several books and has written numerous research articles. For his discovery of active contractile properties in fascial tissues he was awarded the prestigious Vladimir Janda Award for Musculoskeletal Medicine. He was co-initiator and organiser of the first Fascia Research Congress held in Boston, USA in 2007.
APPLIED FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY
Wilbour Kelsick specializes in elite athletic performance and rehabilitation, using applied functional anatomy and has worked as team doctor at the Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
He is a Fellow and Vice President of the College of Chiropractic Sport Sciences (Canada), a Fellow of the College of Chiropractic Rehabilitative Sciences (Canada), and a faculty member in the Department of Graduate Studies at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Joanne is a teacher of applied structural anatomy for movement and manual practitioners.
As a Member of the BioTensegrity Interest Group (B.I.G.), Joanne is fascinated by the application of BioTensegrity principles to the understanding of the human blueprint and natural biomotional organisation. Her writing and workshops are devoted to making this emerging context for human movement applicable and clearly understood.
GRAHAM SCARR is a chartered biologist and an osteopath with a particular interest in structural mechanics. Fascinated by the numerous examples of geometric patterns and shapes in nature, he has been researching their significance over many years.
He is part of a specific interest group looking at the significance of the biotensegrity concept to biomechanics and clinical practice. Working closely with Dr. Stephen Levin he has developed new models that progress our understanding of the structure-function relationship in biology.
Through body awareness techniques, education on self-care, nutrition, movement, and exercise, Kelly focuses on the multifaceted, multilayered components that lead to greater health and wellness.
Kelly uses her skills as a manual therapist and Occupational Therapist to address the postural components that can contribute to pain and dysfunction. Along with treating the structural issues that may be present, Kelly also brings awareness to emotional and perceptual factors, and their impact on the body’s regulatory systems.
Elizabeth Larkam is internationally recognized as an innovator of mind body movement techniques for performing arts, therapeutic, athletic, fitness and academic settings.While at the Center for Sports Medicine, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, Elizabeth directed the program that created Pilates protocols for orthopedic, spine and chronic pain diagnoses.
In 2008 she began collaborating with physical therapists, developing Pilates protocols for wounded warriors from Iraq and Afghanistan.

This workshop is for the manual and movement therapist who is interested in learning how to assess the body using concepts based on biotensegrity principles. It introduces the student to assessment strategies which utilize biotensegrity versus biomechanics as their foundational paradigm.
Continuing from this morning's session you will learn how to identify and quantify primary restriction patterns which may contribute to pain, strength limitations, range of motion deficits and dysfunctional movement.
By learning to objectively test and document global restriction patterns, the therapist will learn how to use these measures as a means to inform and track their manual and movement training interventions.
